In this workshop, children will design their own colorful suncatcher while exploring how light and color can brighten both our spaces and our moods. 

We’ll begin with a short mindfulness activity to help children slow down, notice their surroundings, and connect with the light around them. Each child will then create their own unique suncatcher using beads and crystals.

Mindful Stitching: Create Fabric Art by Hand w/ Deepika Prakash
Slow down and experience the calming rhythm of hand stitching while creating a small piece of fabric art. In this workshop you’ll learn a simple method for sewing together small fabric squares to create a classic nine-patch block. This timeless design becomes a beautiful and versatile piece you can use in many ways.

For many people, stitching becomes a form of active meditation—especially if sitting still in traditional meditation is difficult. You’ll leave with a finished fabric square and the skills to continue stitching anytime you want a moment of calm. No prior sewing experience is needed, and all supplies will be provided. This session invites participants to slowly stitch small squares of fabric together in a rhythmic, mindful way. Once you learn this simple method of creating a nine-patch square—free from decision fatigue—you can simply sew. These squares can later be made into a quilt, sewn on to existing clothes or other projects, mounted as artwork, or simply exist as they are. The act of hand sewing is scientifically shown to lower stress hormones, calm the nervous system, and promote focus and relaxation—especially for those who find it difficult to sit still in traditional meditation. Hand sewing engages both creativity and concentration, helping participants enter a natural state of flow. No prior sewing experience is needed, and all supplies will be provided.

Mandala art is extremely therapeutic for the mind and body. Join us for a relaxing and creative 2-hour workshop where you’ll learn the beautiful art of dot mandala painting — and create your own festive ornaments to take home! We’ll start with the basics of dot mandala art, exploring techniques, patterns, and tools. Once you’re comfortable, you’ll get to apply what you’ve learned by designing two unique ornaments — perfect for decorating your tree or gifting to someone special.

Join Danny’s Place for two days to create Art!

This Free workshop for 2nd - 6th graders is led by high schoolers who previously hosted a summer camp in Flera field. This time, they are bringing their experience and fun activities to Danny's Place! This Workshop will end with a Gallery Walk, where participants will get see all the creations!

pop-up event @ illuminated birth & co

Befriend your own sewing machine for this in-person total beginners class. 

In this 2-hour class, the instructor will go over the basics of how to get started with basic sewing and make a simple (but fab!) project together. 

You will walk away from class with fresh skills, inspiration, and confidence, and a new relationship with your sewing machine.

Be sure to bring all the components that come with your machine, including pedal, electrical cord, manual (if you have it), and various foot plates, whatever you have.  

All materials are provided (except for your sewing machine!). Class is limited to six people (age 13 and older).
