"Shaken, Stirred & Punched" Mixology Class: Tea, Anyone?

Sweet tea may not be much of a cultural thing in the northeast, but New Englanders have a long tradition of caring a lot about the taxation of said beverage. Regardless of your colonial-era politics, tea is the perfect beverage for late spring and early summer. It can be sipped hot to warm up a chilly morning, or gulped cold to cool down a hot afternoon. It can also be mixed with booze for brunches, barbecues, and bashes! Join Meredith at this month’s mixology class for a demonstration of three different tea-based tipples to toast the beginning of summer - shaken, stirred and punched. Paper Bones Album Release Party

Join Anders Cahill and friends for an evening of live music and sharing from his newly released album, Paper Bones, at Orange Door Kitchen.

PURCHASE TICKETS!

From the Artist:

Paper Bones is alive and kicking. While this album is a mere drop in the ocean, making it helped me find solace and stay grounded during these strange, tragic, scary, beautiful times we find ourselves in.

Now, it's time to share the songs live. Those who know me know that I don't play out much, so I'm working hard to make this a special event. I've partnered with my dear friends Chris and Meredith at the Orange Door Kitchen in Acton to host the show, and I'm pulling together a band of ace musicians to give these songs a special life.

The show starts at 4:45 pm with two 45-minute sets, broken up by a spacious intermission, with time to connect with each other and enjoy the beautiful space. Tasty, filling nibbles and non-alcoholic drinks are included in the ticket price, and there will also be a cash bar (bar accepts credit cards only). The album will be available for purchase at the show.

Huge thanks to John Nolan of Middle Mountain Studios who produced the record. These songs wouldn't be real without his creativity and persistence. During the making of this album, both our families went through a lot. Children were born. Loved ones were lost. New ventures were started. Homes were moved into. We left jobs and jobs left us. And three separate recording studios emerged from the ground up in unused rooms across the city.

And extra special thanks to my wife, Erica for believing in these songs and in the importance of music in our family's life. Her singing on this record helped make the music shine. I love you, babe :)

All of that is in this music, and I can't wait to play it live. Hope to see you there!

-Anders

Art Reception: "The Art of Craft Beer"

Join The Umbrella Community Arts Center to celebrate their current curated exhibit, “The Art of Craft Beer” in The Gallery at Villageworks. FREE AND OPEN TO THE PUBLIC! Register in advance to to hold your spot.

From The Umbrella:

“There are more craft breweries in the United States now than ever before in American history. Craft breweries are defined as small, independent and traditional by the national non-profit Brewers Association. The craft brewery segment continues to grow, which currently makes up 98 percent of all breweries in the United States. Brewing beer is just one of many crafts that are supported by independent craft breweries. Many independent craft breweries collaborate with artists and arts organizations as part of supporting their local communities, resulting in incredible can and schwag art, pop-up galleries and performances, as well as patron coaster art.

To celebrate our local independent craft breweries’ commitment to supporting our creative community, we are hosting an Art of Craft exhibit focused on brewing inside The Gallery at Villageworks in Acton, MA. In a gallery nestled above our presenting brewery, True West Brewery, we are exhibiting artwork created by craft brewery staff, collaborating artists and patrons from across New England and beyond. See original can art, original prints, labels, and photographs, plus make your own mark on the exhibition on the coaster art wall! True West will also be hosting some participating breweries on their guest taps.”

The Curious Cocktail Mixology Class

Cambridge-based Curio Spice Co. is popping up at Orange Door Kitchen for a wintertime edition of The Curious Cocktail Mixology Class. As the days get shorter and the temperatures drop, we’re teaming up again with the oh-so-talented spicemaster, Claire Cheney, to show you ways to create cocktails that are merry, bright, delicious, and unique.

Spices have been used throughout history to add depth and interest to alcohol, but recently bartenders have started using spices to create "craft cocktails" — libations that delight the senses with hand-made syrups, bitters, and infusions. You can sample such cocktails at a bar, but why not hone your entertaining skills and learn to make them yourself? Join us for a demonstration of three different spice-infused holiday classics (one shaken, one stirred, and one punch) and a deep-dive into how to make bitters at home. Learn how to build layers of flavor and go home with your very own giftable signature bitters blend!

As always, the cocktails will be served with thoughtfully paired snacks to soak up some of that booze.

Tickets are $90 and include heavy appetizers, two cocktails, and a take-home batch of bitters.

"Shaken, Stirred and Punched" Mixology Class

Autumn is at its best with backyard bonfires, cozy wool blankets, mugs of hot spiked cider, and wisps of woodsmoke juxtaposed against the crisp air. For this month’s mixology class, we’re exploring how to use (and balance) the flavor of smoke in cocktails. Join Meredith for a demonstration of three different libations featuring nose-tickling peat, toast, smoke, earth, warmth, and spice. While we're at it, you'll learn foolproof techniques for your home bar and get hands-on to practice measuring, mixing, and mastering flavor with steal-the-recipe craft cocktails.

Tickets are $65 and include heavy appetizers and two cocktails.
