Join the Acton-Boxborough Regional High School Art Department for the opening reception of its Senior Art Exhibit. Showcasing multimedia artwork by ABRHS graduating seniors, the exhibit is interactive with QR codes leading to students’ artist statements. The opening event includes light snacks, and a violin performance by Kseniya Lisysyan.

“There are more craft breweries in the United States now than ever before in American history. Craft breweries are defined as small, independent and traditional by the national non-profit Brewers Association. The craft brewery segment continues to grow, which currently makes up 98 percent of all breweries in the United States. Brewing beer is just one of many crafts that are supported by independent craft breweries. Many independent craft breweries collaborate with artists and arts organizations as part of supporting their local communities, resulting in incredible can and schwag art, pop-up galleries and performances, as well as patron coaster art.

To celebrate our local independent craft breweries’ commitment to supporting our creative community, we are hosting an Art of Craft exhibit focused on brewing inside The Gallery at Villageworks in Acton, MA. In a gallery nestled above our presenting brewery, True West Brewery, we are exhibiting artwork created by craft brewery staff, collaborating artists and patrons from across New England and beyond. See original can art, original prints, labels, and photographs, plus make your own mark on the exhibition on the coaster art wall! Join painter Louise Arnold for the reception for her show INLAND/ISLAND, on exhibit in The Gallery at Villageworks this Fall.

Louise Arnold is a landscape painter with a design background in Landscape Architecture. She works both en plein air and from her sketches and photographs. Louise has been fortunate enough to visit and inhabit the landscapes of both Northern Vermont and Prince Edward Island, Canada. Each provides unique experiences: the region of Vermont that she works in tends to be more enclosed and PEI - surrounded by water - more open and expansive. The paintings on display in the Gallery at Villageworks explore the character of these two distinct landscapes and the reciprocal experience of Louise’s own personality interacting with them.

The reception is Free and Open to the Public.

Join artist Nancy Tobey for a reception celebrating her exhibit "Grounded in Dreaming", on display in The Gallery at Villageworks through April.  Nancy works in encaustic medium -a combination of beeswax, damar, resin, and pigment - to create abstract works that are reminiscent of landscapes, cityscapes and geology.  'Grounded in Dreaming' represents Nancy's exploration of lightness, color, transparency and space.

Join Jeri Kim for a reception celebrating her photography exhibit in Wellness at Villageworks.

The Natural World on Washi: The natural world as seen through a digital lens, printed on Japanese paper.  Inspired by the simple yet equally complex beauty found in plants, fruit, and landscape, Jeri Kim wanted to combine images captured on her phone or digital camera, with elements of something handmade. This exhibit shows works that have been printed on bamboo coated paper made in Japan, designed specifically for digital and alternative photography.

2017 marks one hundred years since America entered Word War I, 'the war to end all wars.' This Veterans Day weekend, join Dr. Elliot Lilien for a drop-in viewing of his personal collection of WWI propaganda posters. At 2:30pm Dr. Lilien will share brief remarks about the posters' historical context and artistic merit followed by an opportunity for Q+A. WWI era background music provided by Thomas Ruggles.  All Posters Are For Sale By Check Only. 

Dr. Elliott Lilien taught at Concord Carlisle High School from 1965 to 2000. He holds degrees from the University of Chicago, Columbia Law School, and Harvard University. He has a wealth of knowledge about European history and a talent for describing historical events in a manner that is unique and engaging.

Dr. Lilien's poster collection will be displayed in The Gallery at Villageworks throughout the month of November.

Celebrate the opening of 'Driven to Abstraction,' with an evening of abstract art and locally crafted beer tastings.  The reception is brought to you by OMR Architects with support from True West Brewing Co. and West Acton Villageworks. 

'Driven to Abstraction' is a juried show of abstract artwork presented by The Umbrella Community Arts Center and exhibited in The Gallery at Villageworks. The artwork is inspired by artist Gifford Pierce’s (1937-1999) geometric studies in color and form. Pierce's work will be be displayed alongside juried abstract artwork from around the region curated by The Umbrella. Pierce’s artwork, from the collection of Nancy and Elliot Lilien, will be on sale to benefit The Umbrella Community Arts Center, a non-profit whose mission is to build a vibrant community through the arts.

Join artist Janet Shapero from 1pm-3pm on Sunday May 21st for the opening of her new installation "In Suspension" designed specifically for The Gallery at Villageworks.  

"In Suspension" premiers over 20 new works.  For almost two decades, Janet has been applying thin layers of pigment, both directly and indirectly to open-weave backings in order to create images of varying translucencies, held afloat in a diaphanous grid.  Rete-Chrome (pronounced rět-ě-krōm - derived from rete, Latin for net; and chrome, Greek for color) is the term she coined for the process and the resulting two-dimensional artwork.  Similarly, the term Rete-Form relates to a like use of pigments applied to metal screen which is then modulated into sculptural forms.  Ranging in size from miniature to monumental, Rete-Chromes and Rete-Forms have been widely exhibited; as individual pieces and as elements in larger installations.

Join photographer Kathryn Costello for a reception celebrating her exhibit After Dark in the Wellness at Villageworks Gallery.

AFTER DARK
Kathryn Costello is a portrait artist specializing in head shots, magazine-style portraiture and dance photography. This exhibit of her night photography—stars and dancers (most of whom were photographed outside after dark) uses time to illustrate what cannot be seen with the naked eye.  Whether it is freezing motion at 1/5000 of a second or a three-hour exposure to burn onto film the motion of the night sky, Kathryn captures the fleeting and the eternal.

Join sculptor Linda Hoffman to celebrate the opening of her new show "Apple Prunings" in The Gallery.  

In 2001, Linda moved to a small farm in Harvard with an old apple orchard. For this exhibit she combined her love for the orchard with her passion for art by (re)using apple prunings, the branches she lops and saws from the trees each winter. Hidden Fruit, Snowy Branches, and A Grafted Life, are just a few of the new sculptures by Hoffman and friends, a collaborative exhibition with apple branches, agricultural artifacts, natural fibers, and Hoffman’s sculpted figures.

Local fine art photographer Elizabeth LaDuca invites you to the opening reception of her new show “Element', a minimalist combination of fine art film photographs and paintings that explore the relationships between light, texture, and tonality.  

Hosted in The Gallery at Villageworks, the evening will feature a local beer and cheese paring from Mill City Cheesemongers and True West, Metrowest's newest craft brewery, recently voted “Best New Restaurant - West" by Boston Magazine. 

Element: An Exploration of Process, Dimension, Texture + Tonality
Element is a collection of fine art photographs and paintings that explore the relationship between light, texture, dimension and tonality. Shot entirely on medium format film, the collection is tactile and emotive. The process of film photography is unique in its ability to preserve a moment through beautifully rendered light, shadow and color. By pairing the photos with abstract paintings, the line becomes blurred between documented reality and artist expression.

Elizabeth LaDuca is a fine art photographer with a love for film. She brings a unique approach to lifestyle and wedding photography, seeking to tell the story of a specific moment in time through softly rendered details and beautiful light. She is forever fascinated by billowing clouds and empty skies, and looks for refinement and organic simplicity in her work.  

Beth holds a fine arts degree from Rochester Institute of Technology and lives in Acton with her husband and 2-year-old German Shepherd. She is happiest traveling, spending time by the ocean, or on the hunt for pretty light, film camera in hand always. Join Janet Wolahan for a reception celebrating her show "Salvage" in The Gallery at Villageworks on Sunday, October 2 from 2pm-4pm.

Janet Wolahan works out of Western Avenue Studios in Lowell, MA. Her fifth floor studio looks over Kazanjian Used Auto Parts, the inspiration and subject for her series, Salvage. According to Janet: “I enjoy working with the vast array of compositional possibilities within the heaps of aged and damaged vehicles, stacks of stripped and crushed auto bodies, and the rusted and nearly unrecognizable debris of automobile salvage.

Inherent in the visceral properties of the subject matter is the universal metaphor of aging: the auto is surpassed by the unique individualized characteristics of experience and old age, and its often overlooked potential for another kind of beauty. My paintings are also portraits of Lowell itself. Everywhere within Lowell’s rich civic, religious, historic and cultural environment is evidence of the economic struggles of ordinary people whose existence is dependent on that ubiquitous product of our civilization: the automobile.”

Willy Garver has studied art all over the world, from her native Netherlands to Australia to the United States.  In this exhibit she displays her series of oil paintings of the Buddha.
